I managed to get out
again yesterday for a few hours during late afternoon so I had a look at the
river before choosing an area in which to fish. My immediate thoughts was to
fish a deep hole just beneath a tree but as someone else was fishing down
stream I decided not to impinge upon his fishing and I headed off down stream
to find somewhere else.
The river is in tiptop
condition, she is running clear and the weed growth is still very healthy if
not a tad too healthy. There are plenty of small fish in the river and I saw a
huge shoal of small perch menacing anything that looked like a meal. The bank
side foliage is still green although one or two of the trees are starting to
turn colour and loose there leaves, it will not be long before the trees will
be bare. The water foul are plentiful as are the small birds, I saw the
Buzzards again high in the sky, and all in all it is a lovely place to be.

I found an area and I
cast in my bait, just the one rod this time, I have decided that unless on a
larger river to use just the one rod and the one bait. I have spent too many
evenings wondering if I should move this rod here and that rod there, should I
put that bait over there, in the end I don’t fish effectively. It was not long
before the first canoeist came down the river, they immediately asked which
side to pass on and did so quietly with no fuss. We share the river and we need
to be polite to each other, some canoeist don’t really see it that way but the
same can be said about some fishermen as well.
I settled down and
then it started……………….. in the distance someone was doing his level best to
murder every single not of ever song he was attempting to sing at a level that
would have drown out the Concorde, it was dreadful! I suffered it for about
half an hour and then moved up stream to an area where it was not quite so
loud. I have sat on the river listening to all sorts but nothing as dreadful as
this guy. One evening from way of in the distance I could hear a lovely classical
music evening followed by fifty or so Chinese lanterns being floated into the
sky, that was a lovely evening to be on the river.
The evening turned
cold quickly last night, there was a mist on the meadow and the sky was clear,
Jupiter was bright in the night sky and I spotted several satellites speeding
through the stars, Vega 5 was burning brightly and the Big Bear was just off to
my right hand side.
I ended the evening
with a dry net, not that that worries me; I have had so many in the past, I
just enjoy my evenings out on the river.
Happy days or should
that be evenings!

ReplyDeleteYou've got an android phone then Tom ;-)
A classically serenaded night on the river sounds lovely. I had a wonderful round of evening fishing yesterday...late autumn evening lights is one of the most comforting things in the world. Just, so peaceful. Here's to happy days, and evenings!
