I managed to get down to the river last night for the first time this week and I was surprised to find the car park empty……………… nobody else was there!
I headed upstream to an area I have fished several times before recently and judging by the state of the area others have been fishing there as well. Two baits where placed into the area and I started to put my umbrella up to shield me from the wind when the upstream rod ripped round, with the umbrella half way up and the wind blowing a light gale I was in no position to strike. A little later I landed a chub which was one ounce over six pounds, a fighting fit fish which looked immaculate.
I fished through ‘til around eleven o’clock but to be honest I was trying to keep out of the wind rather than paying too much attention to what I was doing and I was doing a bit of thinking also. The thought going through my head was something along the lines of “how many times do you fish an area that has given you a large fish before you move on’? I don’t know is the answer to that question, I will admit the pull of that area is too great to be ignored but if I caught the same fish again would it mean as much…………… you can tell I have too much thinking time on my hands.
Today I took my daughter to her favourite small pond to spend a couple of very pleasant hours chatting and missing bites. Between us we managed to miss every bite we had but we had fun in the biting wind.
I need a day off to go pike fishing, hopefully it will come soon.
That's a tasty looking pool Tom.
