Another dry net week I am afraid, things are looking grim on the fish front!
Wednesday evening I drove down to the river to meet and fish with a friend, it’s a good job he was there as I had forgotten my bag of bait; I had made it the night before and left it in the fridge! We fished for a few hours, he had a couple of good bites, which he missed, and I sat in my little swim with nothing happening at all.
Today I fished with another friend, he collected me around ten o’clock and off we went merrily on our way to fish a bit of river I have not fished before, we where a couple of minutes from the river when I realised I had left my bait bucket in the garage…………… bloody hell!
We carried on to the river and I used some of his bait. We walked down to the bottom of the stretch and he pointed out various lovely looking areas in which to place a bait and filled me in on some of his catches from the river. He has done really well in seasons past and had a huge fish a week or so back so I was quite excited to be there.
We started at the bottom of the stretch and fished our way back to the car placing a bait in every good looking area. I had a good bite in the first swim I visited but that was to be the only action I saw. I fished about six or seven swims, giving each about half an hour until I caught up with my friend. He had caught a chub but no barbel.
The season has definitely changed, the wind coming from the North was decidedly chilly, and the trees are well on the way to shedding all of their leaves and the bank side vegetation is really dying back. The river was busy on the opposite bank but we where the only two on our side of the river. I had a pleasant day out in the daylight, I would say sunshine but the sun struggled to break through the clouds.
Better luck next time I suppose.
You really must start writing a check list Tom :-)
ReplyDeleteI think Dave there makes an excellent suggestion. ;)
