Fed up with being cold...................

For once I managed to finish work at a sensible time yesterday and once home I headed off down to the river to she her during the day rather than arriving after dark as I usually do.

The car park had a more vehicles in it than I would like, selfishly I like to see just one vehicle in the car park and that is my car! Two guys where having a late lunch, cooking some hot food on a small stove in the back of their small van, it smelled very nice, I had a packet of biscuits and a flask for company that evening which was a poor second I felt.

Having not been down to the river for a few weeks I decided to make good use of the daylight and have a short walk and see where people had been fishing and have a look at the river as well. The usual places where muddy and looked well fished, the river had a foot or so more water in it than my last visit and there was a good bit of colour in the water. I quickly made my mind up to fish an area that had no recent evidence of activity and I set up and cast my baits into the area, one in the deep margin and the other a little further out.

I had set my umbrella up and I settled in underneath it trying to keep out of the wind but I quickly became cold, the wind was bitter and it managed to chill me through my clothing, my feet being the exception, they where nice and warm. I have been wearing this jacket for a few seasons now and I have never been totally happy with it, it is a heavy jacket to wear and very well made but it is not warm and it is not waterproof. Recently I have been feeling the cold a lot more, is age playing a part? I don’t know but it is making for uncomfortable fishing when it is cold.

The swans decided to play their usual “lets chase each other up and down the river all evening” game that I always seem to endure in my swim, four of them where charging up and down trying their level best to drown each other, is it mating season already?

Sitting there cold it was not too long before I started to wonder if coming out was a mistake this evening, the rod tips where motionless, the swans where doing their very best to ruin whatever enjoyment I was taking from being there and the cold was really getting me down.

I stuck it out until ten o’clock but the cold really got too me and I left for home.

  1. At least you gave it a good go, and there's always a pleasure to be had in that. Strange, my feet are always the first things to get cold. ;)
